From a Sundance Books and Music news release
I knew the Pickles comics had been around for a while. I remember when they were first syndicated, and I never would have guessed it’s been 25 years. But that’s the title of Brian Crane’s latest collection: 25 Years of Pickles.
Sundance Books and Music will hold a book launch to celebrate the publication from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24.
In his seventh Pickles collection, Crane shares some of his favorite recent strips and many of his earliest ones, most of which have not been collected in book form. The book—from Baobab Press, the publishing arm of Sundance Books and Music—showcases the wry, honest and heartwarming connection between Earl, Opal and the rest of the Pickles family. It offers readers a chance to look back even as Pickles continues to pick up momentum for the next 25 years of laughter.
Crane is the recipient of the prestigious 2013 Reuben Cartoonist of the Year Award. Pickles appears in over 900 newspapers worldwide and has been nominated twice for Best Comic Strip. Pickles received the honor in 2001. Crane lives in Sparks with his wife, and they are the proud parents of seven children and thirteen grandchildren—with a fourteenth on the way.
Does that mean Crane is now laughing with Earl rather than at him?
