Ex-Renoite to read and sign new YA novel at Sundance

From a Sundance Books and Music news release

Glass-Arrow-685x1024Sundance Books and Music will hold a reading and signing with young adult fiction author Kristen Simmons from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 22. She’ll present her newest novel, The Glass Arrow (Tor Teen, 2015).

About the Book

Once there was a time when men and women lived as equals, when girls were valued, and when women could belong only to themselves. But that was ten generations ago. Now women are property, to be sold and owned and bred, while a strict census keeps their numbers manageable and under control. The best any girl can hope for is to end up as some man’s forever wife, but most are simply sold and resold until they’re all used up.

Only in the wilderness, away from the city, can true freedom be found. Aya has spent her whole life in the mountains, looking out for her family and hiding from the world, until the day the Trackers finally catch her.

Stolen from her home and being groomed for auction, Aya is desperate to escape her fate and return to her family, but her only allies are a loyal wolf she’s raised from a pup and a strange mute boy who may be her best hope for freedom . . . if she can truly trust him.

Simmons, who grew up in Reno, writes young adult fiction—the kind that’s dark and scary but generally involves some kissing. She’s the author of Article 5 (2012), Breaking Point (2013) and Three (2014), as well as The Glass Arrow (2015) and Metaltown (coming 2016).

Hopkins to celebrate publication of adult novel

From a Sundance Books and Music news release

love-lies-beneath-9781476743653_lgSundance Books and Music will hold a reception to celebrate the publication of Ellen Hopkins’ new novel, Love Lies Beneath (Simon & Schuster, 2015), from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 21. The event will include a reading, a Q&A session and a book signing.

About the book

Tara is gorgeous, affluent, and forty. She lives in an impeccably restored Russian Hill mansion in San Francisco. Once a widow, twice divorced, she’s a woman with a past she prefers keeping to herself.

Enter Cavin Lattimore. He’s handsome, kind, charming and the surgeon assigned to Tara following a ski accident in Lake Tahoe. In the weeks it takes her to recover, Cavin sweeps her off her feet, and their relationship blossoms into something Tara had never imagined possible. But then she begins to notice some strange things: a van parked outside her home at odd times, a break-in and threatening text messages and emails. She also starts to notice cracks in Cavin’s seemingly perfect personality, like the suppressed rage his conniving teenage son brings out in him and the discovery that Cavin hired a detective to investigate her immediately after they met.

Now on crutches and housebound, Tara finds herself dependent on the new man in her life—perhaps too much so. She’s handling rocky relationships with her sister and best friend, who are envious of her glamour and freedom; her prickly brother-in-law, who is intimidated by her wealth and power; and her estranged mother. However perfect Tara’s life appears, things are beginning to get messy.

Hopkins is the no. 1 New York Times bestselling author of 11 young adult novels as well as the adult novels Triangles and Collateral. She lives with her family in Carson City.
